Small evergreen trees or shrubs; twigs thick, terete, glabrous or sparsely cobwebby pubescent.
Leaves turning reddish brown when dry, coriaceous or thinly coriaceous, 15–27 cm long, 4.5–8 cm wide, apex acuminate or caudate, base cuneate, margins recurved, entire or often distally with glandular teeth distally, glabrous above on upper surface; glaucous, spasely cobwebby pubescent below on lower surface, more densely so along midrib and nerves, midrib impressed above on upper surface, very prominent on lower surface beneath, nerves 11–13 pairs meeting in an intramarginal vein, impressed on upper surface, distinctly prominent on lower surface; petioles 2–2.5 cm long, cobwebby pubescent, but later glabrescent.
Inflorescences a contracted spikes, often branched at base, from axils of leaves and/or on twigs, axis rusty tomentose, bracts depressed ovate to ovate, 2.5–4 mm long, apex rounded or obtuse, bracteoles 2, ovate, ca. 2 mm long, obtuse at apex, adaxially glabrous, abaxially rusty tomentose, both persistent. Calyx tube glabrous, ca. 1 mm long, limb ca. 2 mm, 5-lobed, lobes ovate to triangular, ca. 1 mm long, tomentose outside; corolla 5-lobed, lobes ca. 4 mm long, 3 mm wide; disc annular, glabrous, ovary 3-locular.
Fruits dark violet, narrowly ovoid, crowned by persistent calyx lobes, ca. 15 mm long, ca. 7 mm in diam., stone smooth or shallowly grooved lengthwise grooved, endocarp woody, seed 1, straight, with straight embryo.
